THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
I have always had a fascination with primates, asking the question , did humans evolved directly from them or were we just created through God in classic Adam & Eve style? If you know someone that has the answer, please let me know. I think most people can remember visiting a zoo at some point in their lives and observing monkeys showing off life drunk humans behind thick glass. This painting features a great Silverback Gorilla and an Orangutan stale-mated over whom will take the road less traveled . It is interesting to know that the two mammals have completely different habitats and would actually never be seen together in real life. I purposely choose the two for this reason, because choosing a road less traveled can be defining moment, one that often separates us from circumstances we are accustom to, content, and the inability to face ones fears. When taken ….a whole new world of opportunities presents themselves with both new risk and reward that may potentially lie at any breath we take. Always infatuated with VanGogh brushstroke, I find his genius a perfect match for my stylistic approach to this painting. The landscape itself is very derivative of a typical farm landscape from his collection. The size of the work is large, bold, and bright. This is a piece that is almost crying to be displayed in a doctors office, whether pediatrician or psychologist, its’ sheer scale and subject lends towards great social commentary. If you have never read The Road Less Traveled, I highly recommend it!
