THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
I began this canvas the morning of Sept 12th, 2001 in Rittenhouse Square Philadelphia. Being blessed with the natural talent of painting, my work often offers healing opportunities, creating this piece will always remain close to my soul. The park was so quiet yet so full of people, an incredible sense of mourning and togetherness was flowing at every moment. It was very obvious that no one could return to work but were all literally seeking to hold hands with each other. I returned everyday until the piece was completed on Saturday the 15th. . On my birthday, Oct 4th, I visited New York with a fellow friend Philadelphia artist Charles Cushing. We both brought along our respective memorial paintings and were quietly anxious to visit the still smoldering ground zero.It was probably the saddest most powerful thing that I have or will ever have ever seen in my entire life. Later in the day, we displayed are works in the park outside The Plaza Hotel. I was amazed and touched to see how many artists were present with their own 911 memorial paintings. Certainly another day i’ll never forget!’
